SUTOMO ( BUNG TOMO )
Sutomo or BungTomo was born inSurabaya, East Java, October 3, 1920, was born in Kampung BlauranSutomo, in downtownSurabaya. His father was Kartawan Tjiptowidjojo, a head of a middle-class family. Heworked as a civil servant, as a personal staff in a private company, as an assistantin the office of government tax, and small employee in the Dutchimport-export company. He claimed to have blood ties with some close companion of Prince Diponegoro who was interred in Malang. His mother was of mixed blood of Central Java, Sunda, and Madura.
His father was anall-rounder. She has worked as a police officer inthe township, and had also become a member of the SI, before he moved to Surabaya andbecome a local distributorfor the Singer sewing machine company. Sutomogrew up in the house were very appreciative of education. He spoke openly andvigorously. He likes to work hard to improve the situation. At age 12, when he was forced toabandon his studies in MULO, Sutomo doingvarious small jobsto cope with the effects of depression that swept the world at that time. Later he completed his HBSeducation through correspondence, but never officially graduated.
